The Journey

Some people will take you farther than you want to go faster than you want to get there.

It is clearly evident that not all paths are sweet and pleasant.

Even when the road traveled is dusty and hard a companion of the heart makes the best of it.

Myself I find on a stone filled road, hard and unyielding, uphill and dangerous.

The cliffs are narrow and the passage uneven.

The summit is out of view yet I have long labored without good rest.

I can not return to the place I began as the day is well spent.

At roads end I know there is a table prepared for me.

A glass of wine and a dinner waiting to be served.

I expect my friends and those I have traveled with will meet me there.

I remember the times our paths intersected.

The laughter we shared uplifted our heavy feet in the place of step ascent.

It seems I am going alone now along this uncertain journey.

My mouth is dry and bitterness is on my tongue.

I hunger for a sweetness and a fullness, yet I press on.

Your presence is my mainstay now.

I left many things behind just to press on.

You are like the wind at my back as I don’t see you yet you keep me on track with gentle urging to finish.

In fact I hasten on driven by exhaustion not really able to go. on.

It is growing late and dark shadows overwhelm me.

Yes I feel the touch of your hand on my shoulder, and it comforts me.

But I am alone, alone, and the chill of night is upon me.

Oh there is a flicker of light.

Yes I will press on as your presence has sustained me.

Jesus
